Formosa Art Fair
There is a large and growing number of persons with disabilities in the world today. The estimated figure of 500 million is confirmed by the results of surveys of segments of population, coupled with the observations of experienced investigators. In most countries, at least one person out of 10 is disabled by physical, mental or sensory impairment. The dysfunction of the Disabled is not definitely referring to the whole body; social environment is even the critical factor to difficulties. Most of them couldn’t full participation in the basic units of society family, social groups and community is the essence of human experience, not to mention the possibility of participating in artistic creation.
The right to equality of opportunity for such participation is set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and should apply to all people, including those with disabilities. In reality, however,
disabled persons are often denied the opportunities of full participation in the activities of the socio- cultural system of which they are a part. This deprivation comes about through physical and social
barriers that have evolved from ignorance, indifference and fear. Attitudes and behavior often lead to the exclusion of disabled persons from social and cultural life.
Established in the year 2009, Luminance Art Space is an entity exhibition space of the Taiwan Association for the Art Development of the Disabilities. The Space is a platform to provide the opportunities for the exhibitions of the creation of the disabled to interact with the society.
The objectives of the entries competition of Luminance Art Space lie in rewarding and encouraging, cultivating and inspiring the disabled artists who possess the potential quality, creativity, experimental innovation, and uniqueness. The Space works in pluralistic ways to assist these talented handicapped people to get hold of more opportunities and better environment in future creation.
